Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rams cut down by the Knights

NEW ULM, Minn. --  After a weekend road trip, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team was on the road once again as they battled the Martin Luther College (MLC) Knights in the second game of the afternoon in New Ulm.  The momentum from the MLC men's victory early in the afternoon seemed to rub off on the women's team as they jumped out to an early lead of their own against the Rams in game number two en route to a big 5-0 victory over the NCU.

Game Vitals

  • NCU Registered 13 total shots (6 on goal)
  • Rams finished with 12 saves on the afternoon
  • Rams drop to 0-4 on the young season

Game Recap

The Rams seemed to settle in early on the defensive end, working to keep the Knight offense at bay. After executing the game plan for the first ten minutes, the Knights were unfortunately able to break through the NCU defense for the first score of the game to end the tie and take the 1-0 lead. NCU pushed to answer the Knight's goal quickly, but their efforts were squashed by some tight MLC defense and impressive goalie play. After quieting the Knight's offense for much of the first half following their first score, the Rams faltered on the defensive end late in the first half as MLC added two goals in the last 8 minutes to increase their lead to 3-0. After the break, the Rams found themselves a few scoring opportunities but could not quite capitalize. With the Rams looking for answers on the offensive end, the Knights continued to find the back of the net, adding two more goals in the second half to run away with the 5-0 win over NCU.

Next up

NCU will be back in action next Tuesday as they battled St. Scholastica in their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup of the year. Kickoff for the match is set for 4:15 p.m. from Duluth, Minn.
