Rams dominate Sabercats in back to back wins

MINNEAPOLIS, -- In tonight's matchup, North Central University (NCU) Rams women's basketball looks send Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) back to Watertown, WI empty-handed, in the second day of their back-to-back competitions with the Sabercats. The Rams maintain their non-conference momentum with a 74-45 win over MBU.
 

Game Recap
The Rams came out ready to play and quickly took the lead from the Sabercats. NCU did not let MBU get a chance to get the pull ahead this time, holding the Sabercats to only 7 points in the first period while scoring 30 points of their own. However, in the second quarter, Maranatha put up a fight putting 16 points on the board compared to North Central's 18 in the 2nd. The Rams dominated the 3rd quarter as well but allowed the Sabercats to outscore them by 2. Their effort was not enough for MBU to overcome NCU's dominant 30-point 1st quarter. North Central held a commanding lead throughout the entirety of the game and ended with a final score of 74-45.

Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) once again has a dominant performance. She was a force in the paint with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Captain Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School) also had a solid night, scoring 13 points and going 2-4 from 3. DiGiorgio and Hagstrom provided veteran leadership with their playoff experience to the large class of freshmen on this year's roster. Leading the freshman charge was Joelle Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School) who had 8 points and facilitated for her teammates, ending the night with 6 assists. Freshman Caitlin Chavez (Edmond, OK, Edmond North High School) was the 3rd Ram in double digits, finishing with 10 points off of the bench.

  • Emily DiGiorgio records another incredible double-double, leading the team in both points and rebounds with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Her second double-double in their 3 games played.
  • Naomi Hagstrom was the second leading scorer trailing DiGiorgio with 13 points of her own.
  • Joelle Talso recorded 8 points and an impressive 6 assists in tonight's performance.
