ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- North Central University (NCU) Softball kicked off their 2020 season with a doubleheader in St. Cloud against the Cobbers of Concordia College. The Rams struggled to find a spark from behind the plate in either contest as they fell 16-0 in game number one and 9-0 in game number two.
Game One Recap
The Rams got rolling right away registering a base on balls as well as a single in the top half of the first inning, but were unable to bring any runners across the plate as they left one runner on base. After holding NCU scoreless to start the game, the Cobbers exploded in the bottom of the first. Concordia recorded 8 total hits in the inning including a three run home run. The Cobber offense produced an early 8-0 lead and put a large cushion between them and the Rams. After shaking some rust off after inning number one, the Rams sent down the Cobbers in a 1-2-3 out fashion and seemed to settle in, but NCU still could not find an offensive spark. With the Rams still unable to bring anyone across the plate, the Cobbers got back in their groove and added another 8 runs to their lead, topping the Rams 18-0 in 4 innings.
Game Two Recap
The Rams looked to turn the tide in game number two. NCU buckled down on the defensive side of the field and held the Cobbers to just 3 runs in the first three innings. While the Rams flipped the switch defensively, they still were unable to get anything going from behind the plate. Cobber's pitcher, Hendrickson, only produced 2 total strikeouts but held the Rams hitless in the 5 inning game helping lead the Cobbers to a 9-0 victory.Â
Looking Ahead
After the opportunity to get their season kick started early, the Rams will have about a month of down time to prepare to jump back into live competition. NCU's next games will take place in Florida when they make their Spring Trip down south in March.
