Softball underway in Florida; edged in battle with Washington College

CLERMONT, FLA. -- North Central University (NCU) traveled to central Florida for some spring training action. The Rams kick started their season once again after a few week pause from action following their first two contests of the season in February. First up for NCU was Washington College (MD), who had already manufactured a 3-1 record in their 4 games so far down in Florida. Washington College continued their winning ways as their winning streak moves to three, topping the Rams in a tight 8-0 contest Monday morning.

GAME RECAP
Emma Bushey, a tested veteran for the Rams, took the mound for game one of the trip. The Rams played tough on the defensive end, but Washington College, already acclimated to opposing pitching having had a few games under their belt, wore down the Ram's pitching throughout the contest. The Rams allowed just two runs through the first two innings, but they could not find a way to bring any runs of their own across the plate. North Central found a few baserunners by the walk of a couple walks, but struggled to moved them around the bases. With the Rams unable to find answer on the offensive end, Washington College broke open the game in the third inning. The highlight in the inning for the visitors was a two RBI double for Rachel Butler who had just one hit in the ball game on two plate appearances, but it was a big one for the Shorewoman. Following the end of the third inning, the Shorewoman had produced a seven run lead and built up a comfortable cushion. The Rams held Washington College to just one more run throughout the contest, but still could not find and offensive spark as they would eventually fall by a score of 8-0 in five innings. Bushey suffers the loss in her 5.0 innings pitched.

Next Up
NCU continues their spring trip with another opportunity tomorrow afternoon as they square up with Marywood University. First pitch for this battle is slated for 1:30 p.m. (EST) down in Clermont, Florida.
