Game Recap: Softball |

Softball downed by Mount Mary in game number two of a doubleheader in Florida

CLERMONT, FLA. -- North Central University (NCU) was in action following their off day yesterday. NCU squared off with Lakeland University and a quick start for the Muskies was too much for the Rams to overcome. Lakeland manufactured a 5 run bottom of the first and added four mor runs to their lead in the following two innings to run away with a 9-0 victory over the Rams. Game number two pitted the Rams with Mount Mary University. The Blue Angels experienced a slow start but manufactured 7 runs in three innings which was enough to propel them to victory over the Rams.

GAME ONE RECAP
After two quick outs for the Rams, Emma Bushey was able to find her way on the base paths with a single, but was unable to find her way back across the plate seeing the inning come to an end with a runner left on. While holding the Rams scoreless in the top half of the first, the Muskies' bats exploded in the bottom half. Lakeland connected on 4 hits and benefited from a few errors as they saw the score go from 0-0 to 5-0 in their favor after the first inning.

North Central failed to find much of an offensive spark throughout the rest of the contest. They were able to find a couple more hits throughout the ball game, but were just unable to find a way to get those runners across the plate. With the Rams remaining scoreless, Lakeland kept their hot hitting alive. The Muskies scored two runs in the second and two runs in the third inning to push their lead to 9-0 and never look back. Emma Bushey suffered the loss for the Rams as she added 2 more strikeouts to her weekly total on another 4.0 innings pitch.

GAME TWO RECAP
In game number two the Rams ran into a Blue Angels team that was fresh off an 11 run performance and a victory early in the day. Mount Mary showed some signs of their bats slowing down in the first inning, but it was in inning number two when they would be reawaken with a fury. Mount Mary produced a two run inning in the top of the second followed by five more runs in the proceeding two innings and in what seemed like a blink of an eye, the Rams found themselves trying to claw back into the ballgame. After another run in the top of the 6th, the Rams had their backs against the wall as they hoped to extend the contest. NCU strung two singles together in the bottom half of the 6th but could not turn it into runs on the scoreboard as they fell 8-0 to end the afternoon.

Next Up
NCU will conclude their spring trip with one final contest tomorrow morning. The Rams will battle with Alverno in a contest that is set for an 11:15 a.m. first pitch.
