ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) men's soccer team faced the Eagles from the University of Northwestern (UNW). After the previous matchup going into the overtime, these
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) teams were ready to face off again. The Eagles were able to edge out the Rams 2-1.
Game Vitals
- There were six yellow cards in the match, four for UNW and two for NCU.
- The Rams were still out two vital players, Elliott Lebsack (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School) and Anthony Medina (Elk River, MN).
Game Recap
Under the lights, the Rams and Eagles went to battle as the whistle blew. Although the game was away for NCU, many fans traveled over to show their support, which the Rams greatly appreciated. NCU played a good amount of defense tonight and were able to quickly spring on the attack when they won the ball.
Jerad Buse (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School) got the first goal of the game for both teams in the second half off of a penalty kick in the box. The Eagles also tried to net a goal off of a penalty kick later in the half, but to no avail after an amazing save by goalie
Sam Thurston (Crystal, MN, Robbinsdale Cooper).
Thurston had 13 saves, saving shots left and right, high and low, tremendously showing off his skills and aiding in the defense of the Rams. UNW did eventually score twice in the second half. NCU kept fighting to try to send the game into overtime like the teams' previous matchup, but unfortunately the game ended at 2-1 in favor of the Eagles.
