Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

The Cougars slip past the Rams by one

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) men's soccer team played against the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game featured two very tough teams with the Cougars prevailing over the Rams 2-1.

Game Vitals
  • All scoring plays happened in the second half.
  • The Rams had nine players with shots helping in the attack.

Game Recap

NCU took on the physical Cougars this sunny afternoon and battled after every ball right from the start. Still with a few key players out for the Rams, a number of NCU's players stepped up to lead the team. Tyler Johnsen (Lindstrom, MN, Chisago Lakes High School) led from the center back position, directing traffic, winning the ball, and playing some great passes from the backline. Johnsen was aided by Weston Buckley (Budapest, HU, International Christian School of Budapest) and Jerad Buse (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School) who were able to lead on the attack to generate some shots for the Rams. Both teams went into halftime scoreless, but it didn't last long. The Cougars got two goals within five minutes of each other in the second half. NCU's offense still battled and eventually found themselves at the back of the net as well. Adam Vang (Green Bay, WI, Green Bay Southwest High School) took it himself and kicked a beautiful shot over the hands of UMM's keeper and into the goal. Vang also led the Rams with three shots and two on goal this afternoon. NCU kept pushing into the Cougar's backline in the last ten minutes but were able to send the game into overtime.
