MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team battled against Martin Luther College (MLC) under the lights. The
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup seemed lopsided at first, but the Rams fought back into the game in the second half. The Knights did prevail with a score of 4-2.
Game Vitals
- There were a total of 58 shots in the game, 33 for the Knights and 25 for the Rams.
- All but one goal was assisted for both teams.
Game Recap
The game started out fairly even, both teams testing the backline of their opponent. However, MLC was the first to the net in the 13th minute. This goal spurred some energy in the Knights and they scored twice more in a ten minute span and again in the 37th minute, putting the Rams down by four at half.
NCU regrouped at halftime to fix some of the problems the Knights were causing. In the second half,
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) slid into center midfield which was a huge help in organizing the midfield and marking up the Knights. Once the Rams were winning balls centrally, their offense flowed naturally. Just five minutes into the second half,
Lewis play a balled out wide to
Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) who took it down the left side.
Grubbs crossed it right around the six and
Mia Wajda (Gejiu, China, Centennial High School) sent it home. This goal gave NCU some much need energy and excitement out on the field. Shortly later,
Alexis Orlando (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount High School) netted her signature high shot over the keeper's hands, adding another goal to the Rams score.Â
Throughout the rest of the game, NCU pushed and pushed against the defense of the Knights, but were unlucky around the goal. It was not for lack of trying as seven different Rams had a chance on goal. The second half effort was a sight see and left MLC lucky that the game ended when it did.
