Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Castro ties career high as Rams fall in home opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team host Lakeland University (LU) in their home opener. The Rams and Muskies went head to head showing off their skills in the thriller ending with LU on top, 104-94.

Game Recap

The Rams went on a 5-0 run to start the game with some quick shots and active defense. The Muskies trailed NCU for about the first five minutes of the game, then the teams started trading baskets. Slowly LU started to pull away, but the Rams never fell too far behind. Unfortunately, NCU got in foul trouble and the Muskies were in the bonus and then in double bonus with quite some time left in the first half. A couple baskets from guard Justin Castro (Kissimmee, FL, Gateway High School), intensity on defense, and energy from the crowd helped the Rams cut the score and gain momentum going into halftime.

Similar to the start of the came, NCU came out hot in the second half, going on a little 4-0 run. But the Muskies answered shortly after with a couple baskets of their own. Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, CO, The Vanguard School) and Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School) added some clutch points in the second half. Filer also grabbed eight rebounds for NCU. Castro dominated the game with six three pointers and multiple fancy finishes at the rim. The Rams got the score within five points, but LU seemed to always have a lead that was just out of the Ram's reach.

Key Performers
  • Justin Castro dropped a career high 30 points for the Rams shooting 54% from the three point line.
  • Coming off the bench, Tanner Holtman (Aurora, CO, Grandview High School) had a solid night of 14 points and five rebounds, shooting 66% from three.
  • Adding 13 points for NCU was Seth Fuqua who also had five rebounds and three assists.
