Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rams win in thrilling home opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- After winning their first game of the season, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team looked for another win against Beloit College (BC). After a thrilling four quarters, the Rams came out on top with a final score of 70-60.

Game Recap

The opening minutes had little scoring by each team, which led to a low first quarter score of 10-9 for the Buccaneers. The Rams responded explosively to start the second quarter with a 8-0 run aided by a three pointer each from Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) and Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School) and multiple steals from NCU's defense. BC chipped away at the Ram's lead and managed to get within six points at the end of the half.

While the Buccaneers had a decent start to the third quarter, NCU, with help from the crowd's energy and their own active defense, knocked down shots and kept the lead. Mary Seegers (Oconomowoc, WI, Homeschool) was one of those players who knocked down shots in the second half as well as disrupting BC's offense with her lockdown defense. Seegers had four of the Ram's 14 steals. These steals along with 14 offensive rebounds generated many extra possessions for NCU in which they capitalized on. The Rams rode the waves of the game and kept their composure sealing their second win of the season.

Key Performers
  • Kadija Conteh was all over the court with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
