Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rams get first road win over the Lions

ELLENDALE, North Dakota -- The North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team traveled five hours north to play against Trinity Bible College (TBC). Even coming off their Thanksgiving break, the Rams were fresh and poised beating the Lions 105-91.

Game Recap

NCU opened up the half trading baskets with TBC. The Rams were hot from the three point right from the tip off with back to back threes from Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, CO, The Vanguard School) and Justin Castro (Kissimmee, FL, Gateway High School). Each team put together a string of points in the opening five minutes but NCU was able to pull away with a 11-4 run backed by more threes from Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School) and Griffin Trull (Sacramento, CA, Sacramento Adventist Academy). In the first half, the Rams shot a collective 50% from beyond the arc as they were able to pull away from TBC 54-40 at halftime. Furthermore, NCU forced ten turnovers out of the Lions to build their 14 point lead.

Coming out of halftime, the Rams continue to stretch their lead, up to 23 points at the most. NCU had some great combination play as they pushed the ball in transition continuing their success from the three point and inside the paint. Jonathan Thompson (Kansas City, MO, Park Hill South High School) led the Rams in the second half with four offensive rebounds as the team had seven in the second half. These boards added possessions for NCU in which they were able to capitalize off of. Both teams got into the bonus and double bonus down the stretch. The foul shots for each team were vital to the score. A couple of made free throws and three point shots got the Lions within nine points of the Rams with two and half minute left in the game. However, the superior defense from NCU, free throws from Filer and Castro, and a clutch three pointer from Fuqua granted the victory for the Rams.

With the 105 point win, NCU gained their first road game of the season and winning their second game in a row.

Key Performers
  • Shooting 50% from the three point line, Seth Fuqua led the team with 23 points and six assists.
  • In just 22 minutes, Micah Filer scored 22 points.
  • Kayden Sund (Golden, CO) dominated the boards with 11 rebounds, three offensive and eight defensive.
