Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rams off to best start in program history at 7-0

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball competed with Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) at their home court looking to keep their undefeated season. The nonconference game went to the Rams with a 84-34 win over the Sabercats as NCU moved to 7-0, making it the best start in program history.

Game Recap

The Rams brought the energy to Clark-Danielson Gymnasium to this afternoon affair as NCU took it to MBU right from the tip off. The Rams outscored the Sabercats 18-3 in the first quarter. NCU established their brand of play in the opening minutes, speeding down the court, flowing on offense, and getting up on defense to cause chaos in the back court. The Rams intense defense forced 29 MBU turnovers and a couple ten second half court calls on the Sabercats. Even more so, NCU's defense kept MBU to only 34 points the entire game, ten in the first half alone. Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) and Mary Seegers (Oconomowoc, WI, Homeschool) both had four steals, adding to the Rams' 14.

The tempo and intensity start by NCU on defense setup some great offense. Also working hard on the offensive end was Conteh with 21 points. Among those points were four three's from Conteh. The Rams were able to use their height over the Sabercats time and time again as the ball was passed into post Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School). DiGiorgio easily handled the paint with her 20 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks. Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School), another height advantage for NCU, grabbed 13 boards to finish many defensive possession.

The spirit and toughness of the Rams was too much for MBU to manage as NCU ran them out of the gym with the 50 point win. With the victory, NCU remains undefeated and moves to 7-0, their best program start in history. This team has barely begun and are already doing great things for their program and for their school.
