MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In an unexpected rescheduled game, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team used the momentum gained from their big win this past weekend to cruise to a victory over the Martin Luther College (MLC) Knights on Tuesday night. A full team effort was showcased by the Rams' entire roster in the 72-49
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win.
Game Recap
Having beat MLC just a few weeks earlier, NCU came into the matchup looking to pickup right where they left off. The Rams started off having their way offensively, going on an early 12-2 run in the first few minutes of the game. Despite the early spark, the Knights managed to stay within striking distance throughout the first quarter. NCU held the Knights to only nine points in the second quarter and knocked down four three-pointers in six minutes to keep MLC from having a shot at recapturing the lead. Ending the second half on a string of efficient shooting, the Rams headed into the break in control of the pace of the game.
The Rams used their towering posts to their advantage, taking authority of the paint on both ends of the floor. NCU had 40 points in the inside and 52 total rebounds. On the outside,
Jocelyn Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School) had a great night, shooting 4-8 from the three point line. Even so, the Rams were able to push the ball up the court fueled by every player from the roster finding their way on the stat sheet. The bench added in 18 points and the team had 17 assists in total. With only a few weeks remaining in the season, NCU is still surprising teams with more and more chemistry, talent, and uncontrollable energy that will continue to be instrumental in the rest of their conference slate.
Key Performers
- Jocelyn Talso lived up to her reputation as one of the best three pointer shooters in the conference, shooting 50% from downtown. She had a total of 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
- Leading the floor, point guard Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) gave the Rams a solid 13 points and nine rebounds.
- Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) also had 13 points and five rebounds.
Looking Ahead
With the win over MLC, NCU is still undefeated in the
UMAC and at home in Clark-Danielson Gym. The Rams' highly anticipated game against Bethany Lutheran College was postponed for a later date due to COVID-19 related reasons. Instead, NCU looks to defend their home court yet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. against another conference powerhouse, the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Click
