Game Recap: Softball |

Softball hangs tough with top-seeded Minnesota Morris

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- After a long string of away games, the North Central University (NCU) softball team finally made their way back to their home field where they took on the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). The Rams stood united in a doubleheader against the Cougars, but were unable to record a win in this Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup. The score read 22-0 for both games.

Game One Recap

Despite the wind and cold day, NCU had a positive mindset going into the game with Catherine SanMiguel (San Antonio, TX, Kaiserslautern High School) on the mounnd. Outs recorded for the Rams were led by Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School) at first base with five outs. DeJong was assisted on several ocasions by shortshop Megan Paulson (North Liberty, IA, Iowa City West High School). Paulson had four total assists and one out of her own. However, the Cougars offense was hard to stop and were able to take down the Rams 22-0.

Game Two Recap

Looking to improve from the first contest, the Rams went out a little more aggressive to start getting some momentum on the offensive end. Rachel Loukinen (Little Falls, MN, Little Falls High School) and Marisela Govea Brown Castro (Austin, TX, Junction City High School) gave NCU two hits, providing a threat to UMM. Despite their best efforts, the Rams were unable to manufacture any runs on the day. While NCU could not get on the board, they played tough the entire day and kept a consistent approach. Towards the end of the five-inning affair, North Central threw the Cougars a scoreless fifth inning. The final score of game two ended in similar fashion as the first, 22-0.
