ST. PAUL, Minn. -- In the team's second game of the season, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer program traveled a city over to take on the University of Northwestern (UNW) Eagles in their second
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game on the campaign. The Rams played a strong 90 minutes, never wavering from the physicality of the Eagles. While NCU had many close chances to score through an newfound spark in the offense this time around, they were unable to convert on the opportunities and ultimatley fell to UNW by a final score of 3-0.
Game Vitals
- Tough defense by the Rams' back line held UNW to only being up 1-0 at the half.
- Despite having 13 corner kicks, UNW did not convert on any of them.
Game Recap
The Rams were eager to clash with the Eagles, who have historically proven to be a strong
UMAC opponent. Staying with their new central defensive shape, NCU forced the ball outside on countless occasions, which forced UNW to lose possession several times early on.
Arien Fritts (Ham Lake, MN, Fritts Homeschool Academy), an up-in-coming keeper for the Rams, had another great game in the net with ten saves while also providing good direction for the defense from the back. The back line composed of
Hannah Fischer (Port Washington, WI, Living Word Lutheran High School),
Rachel Cribb (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School), and
Annalise Gehrke (Plymouth, MN, For Him Academy) who all played as a tough unit and held the Eagles' consistent attack off. Only one goal was allowed in the first half at the 20 minute mark. Even with much of the possession being in the Eagles' half of the field, the Rams remained vigilent throughout all 90 minutes. The Eagles had several fast break opportunities that came close to getting into the back of the net.
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) and
Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) led the attack for the Rams, each recording a shot on goal.
Isabella Connell (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park High School) was dominate in the midfield, as she won lots of tackles in order to push the ball forward. The two remaining Eagle goals were tallied at the 68 and 90 minute marks, resulting in the three to zero victory.
