Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rams fight hard against the Storm in OT

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – With the sun shining and a cheering crowd, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team took on Crown College (CC) on their home turf. This Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game was fast-paced and evenly matched. The Rams were tied with the Storm at the end of regulation, resulting in overtime. While NCU played their heart out, CC managed to slip a goal in just at the end of overtime, with a final score of 1-0.

Game Vitals

  • Despite 42 shots on goal, CC only was successful on one attempt.
  • The Rams had 16 shots and ten shots on goal.

Game Recap

As the teams were both evenly matched, the Rams took the initiative right from the opening whistle, pushing the ball in CC's half of the field. NCU was brilliant offensively, especially on one vs. one matchups. The offense was led by midfielders Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) and Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School). Lewis had seven total shots, and five of those were on goal. Similarly, Grubbs had five shots and two on goal. Goalkeeper Arien Fritts (Ham Lake, MN, Fritts Homeschool Academy) came out strong again for the Rams with 21 saves. One of those saves was off of a penalty kick in the first ten-minute period of overtime. This save by Fritts gave NCU the energy they needed to finish out the rest of the overtime. The Rams played all 100 minutes with grit, even if they did not secure the win in this afternoon's contest.

Looking Ahead

NCU gets a well-deserved rest as their next game is slated for this upcoming Wednesday. The Rams will travel to Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) with the game time at 3:30 in the UMAC matchup.
