Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rams score first goal of the season in loss to Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – On their first long road trip of the season, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team played against the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) on Saturday afternoon. In this Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup, the Rams played a very strong first half, where they presented themselves with several scoring opportunities on their offensive attack. In the end, the Cougars were able to put the ball in the back of the net a few times in the second half to take the win 5 to 1 over the Rams.

 Game Vitals
  • NCU recorded a goal with less than ten minutes to go in the first half.
  • Despite 17 corner kicks by the Cougars, the Rams never let them capitalize.
Game Recap

After an overtime game a week ago, the Rams were eager to get back on the field in search of their first victory of the season. The Rams pressured the ball all throughout the field right from the whistle. This heavy pressure created many scoring chances as well as dominate defense in the back led by center back Rachel Cribb (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School). Although NCU conceded two goals in the first twenty-five minutes, they didn't let that crush their spirit. In fact, it gave them the fire and energy they needed to keep going. With less than ten minutes to go in the first half, Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) dribbled the ball wide down the field. Lewis passed it across the eighteen to Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) who took a touch and scored the first goal of the season for the Rams. NCU started the second half only down by one. Goalkeeper Arien Fritts (Ham Lake, MN, Fritts Homeschool Academy) was monumental for the Rams, as she recorded 13 saves in the process to keep the blue and gold in it at all times. Fritts is currently second in the UMAC for saves per game. This matchup with UMM showed both talents from the defensive and offensive ends for the Rams, talents that continue to get better as the season progresses.
