Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer secures first win of the season over Lumberjills

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Coming off the momentum of scoring their first goal of the season, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team was excited to face Northland College (NC), despite the rainy day. The Rams played hard against this Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent and never gave up, even as the team headed into halftime with a narrow deficit. NCU dug deep and showed their strong spirit as they came back to win the game in the second half 2-1, making this the first win of the Rams' season.

Game Vitals
  • NCU came back from 1-0 deficit at halftime.
  • The Rams scored 40 seconds into the second half.
  • With 13 shots and nine on goal, NCU netted two goals, the highest this season.

Game Recap

As the season has progressed, NCU has been getting better each game and the Rams felt a win on the horizon. The women's team came out with great confidence against the Lumberjills and put pressure on NC's defensive backs constantly. At points in the game, the Rams were held at a disadvantage due to several injuries, but this did not hinder the Rams and their ability to net two goals in the second half. Hannah Fischer (Port Washington, WI, Living Word Lutheran High School) was able to push up into the midfield and managed to shut down the Lumberjill's main scorer on the attack. The Rams conceded a goal in the first half, but 40 seconds into the second, Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) slotted a shot in from a pass from Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School). The duo struck again in the 68th minute, with Grubbs scoring off a cross from Lewis. After taking hold of the lead, the Rams iced the game out by dominating in posession of the ball. Lideeya Lwoy (Willmar, MN, Willmar Senior High School) won multiple balls on the outside, which sparked this from happening. The Rams completed the game 2-1, adding their first game to the win column.
