SUPERIOR, Wis. -- After a long Easter break, the North Central University (NCU) softball team was back in action for their first
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup of the year. The Rams hit the road to take on the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets, and despite battling all day, the Yellowjackets' offense overtook the Rams in both games with scores of 19-0 and 14-0.
Game One Recap
After a great win last week, the Rams looked to continue their momentum going into today's doubleheader. The first inning was a stalemate between NCU and UWS, with each team not able to put anything on the board. The Rams defense was notable in the first inning, as it was three and out for the Yellowjackets.
Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School)Â tallied five outs at first base, with
Rachel Loukinen (Little Falls, MN, Little Falls High School),
Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School), and
Emily Loop (Phelan, CA, Serrano High School) adding two put outs of their own.
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) aided on three of those outs, also recording one for herself. While NCU's defense was strong, the Rams struggled to get on base.
Loop was NCU's sole hit of the first matchup, but a few Rams were able to get on base due to some wild Yellowjacket pitches.
Game Two Recap
UWS came out in game two with a strong offensive start, scoring nine runs in the first inning. Despite the slow start for NCU, they held the Yellowjackets scoreless in the second, third, and fifth innings.
DeJong had seven outs for the Rams at first base. She was assisted by
Loukinen,
Adams, and
Megan Paulson (North Liberty, IA, Iowa City West High School). Pitcher
Catherine SanMiguel (San Antonio, TX, Kaiserslautern High School)Â recorded two strikeouts in the contest.
Adams and
Loukinen were the two among the Rams to find their way on base via hits. The Rams will look to build from here as they head into their next matchup this coming weekend.
