ASHLAND, Wis. -- The North Central University (NCU) softball team had a fast turn on Wednesday afternoon. In another
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game, the Rams faced the Northland College (NC) Lumberjills. NCU dug in deep to play their second doubleheader in two days. While the Rams gave it all they had, the Lumberjill's hitting was too much for NCU. NC took both games with scores of 22-0 and 18-2.
Game One Recap
The Rams took the field ready to fight against the Lumberjills for the first time this season. NC had a strong first inning, scoring ten runs. However, in the second and third inning, NCU's defense really stepped up. The Rams held the Lumberjills scoreless in the second inning and to only two runs in the third. NCU's defense was led by
Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School) at first base and
Emily Loop (Phelan, CA, Serrano High School) at second.
DeJong had five outs and
Loop followed close behind with four of her own. NC found their grove again in the fourth inning, scoring another ten runs. The Rams played a very solid two innings right in the middle of game and are hoping to translate that level of play to the full game.
Game Two Recap
Fueled by the loss of the first game, the Rams came in swinging for the second game of the day. First up at bat for the Rams was
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) who doubled to left field and eventually found her way home and managed to score the first run of the game. NCU's offense was much more active and aggressive in the second game.
Marisela Govea Brown Castro (Austin, TX, Junction City High School) had two hits for the Rams with
DeJong and
Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School) also recorded one hit each.
DeJong also had a RBI along with
Loop who brought home
Megan Paulson (North Liberty, IA, Iowa City West High School).
Carrasco was also vital on the defensive end, as she locked in three outs at catcher.
Adams came in as a relief pitcher for
Catherine SanMiguel (San Antonio, TX, Kaiserslautern High School) and gave the Rams two strikeouts in her time on the mound. NCU was able to get better throughout the span of two games, showing the massive potential they possess.
