Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

The Rams battled hard against the Cougars

MORRIS, Minn – The North Central University (NCU) men's soccer team were on the road for the first time this season as they traveled to the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup, the Rams overcame a 2-0 deficit that came early in the first half. However, the Cougars came out on top in the final minutes with a score of 3-2.

Game Vitals

  • The physicality of the game was shown by the high number of fouls received by the officials (10 for NCU and 11 for UMM).
  • The stats were very even throughout the game. Each keeper had six saves. The Rams had six corner kicks to the Cougars had four.

Game Recap

After a three hour ride, the Rams were eager to get off the bus and get their feet moving. They did just that right from the first whistle. While UMM seem to have bigger players in physicality, that didn't affect NCU. Instead, the Rams used their speed to their advantage and ran circles around the Cougars. UMM got a goal within the first five minutes and got another goal off a questionable penalty kick. The early deficit didn't discourage the Rams as they got a goal of their own just five minutes later. Elliott Lebsack (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School), assisted by Weston Buckley (Budapest, HU, International Christian School of Budapest), netted the first point for NCU gaining all the momentum.

This momentum carried into the second half as Lebsack crossed it from the right side to the far post, then Adam Vang (Green Bay, WI, Green Bay Southwest High School) passed it back in for Buckley to clean it up. NCU played well from the back all the way to the front. Even with substitutions and different lineups, the Rams played cohesively and with confidence. The Cougars were able to get a goal late in the second half putting them over the Rams in the end.
