MORRIS, Minn. – After a week of rest, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team battled against the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). This
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup never let up in energy and excitement as the fight went all the way to the end of the 90 minutes. In a close game, UMM was able to come out on top with a score of 3-2.
Game Vitals
- The Rams had 15 total shots with eight on goal.
- UMM had 11 corner kicks and did not score on a single one.
Game Recap
The women's soccer came into today's game a little light on players, which isn't something new to the team.
Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) played in the goal instead of up top, and a few of the Ram's are suffering from injuries. Yet, NCU stayed strong despite these adversities. The Cougar's offense had a strong start as they netted three goals within the first 15 minutes. Any other team would have thrown in the towel there, but not this NCU team. It fueled their fight even more. Just minutes later,
Alexis Orlando (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount High School) shot a high ball right over the keeper's head and into the back of the net. The Rams had a couple of more attempts at goal but went into halftime down 3-1.
NCU engaged every ball coming into the second half. No Cougar was left unguarded or unchallenged. This excellent defense ran by
Rachel Lampton (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School) in the back led to lots of chances on the offensive end. In the 80
th minute,
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) came down the right side and fired one at the near post right past the goalie. The Rams gave it all they had for the last ten minutes and rattled the number two seeded team in the
UMAC. NCU looks forward to playing UMM further down the road with their full squad.
Looking Ahead
The Rams head back to Minneapolis to get some rest before their game tomorrow. NCU will travel to Crown College (CC) for a game at 7:30 pm under the lights. The teams faced off earlier in the season with a score of 3-1 for CC. All fans are encouraged to tune into official Rams
