MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team debut their baby blue University edition uniforms in their matchup with Northland College (NC). The
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition went right in every way for the Rams as they took down the Lumberjills 98-24.
Game Recap
The Rams responded to their game earlier in the week by scoring off the tip-off by a
Joelle Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School) layup in the first four seconds. NCU got their rhythm back and it started with their hig intensity defense. With a full court press, the Rams forced 27 first half turnovers all over the court. The pace of the game was controlled by NCU as they looked to constantly push the ball in transition and speed up the game. Six different Rams hit a three in the first half alone.
Mary Seegers (Oconomowoc, WI, Homeschool) was on fire as she went 4-5 from the three point line. The three ball and a good pressure defense had NCU up 58-10.
The Lumberjills pushed back a little against the Rams going into halftime. But again and again the press from NCU gave them easy baskets.
Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy),
Aubrey Robinson (Colorado Springs, CO, Sierra High School), and
Seegers dominated the front line of the press flustering the NC guards. Eventually, the Rams found
Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) in the key as she worked hard down low. Overall, NCU controlled the paint on both ends of the floor, as they had 18 offensive rebounds. It was a big team win for the Rams with major contributions from the whole squad. The impressive win moves NCU to 13-1 on the season and 3-1 in the
UMAC.
Key Performers
- Mary Seegers had a season high 20 points shooting 87% from the field and 80% from the three point line.
