Lincoln, NE -- After enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, North Central University's (NCU) men's basketball traveled to play Nebraska Wesleyan (NWU). Having the disadvantage of having to travel two states away, the Rams did not miss a step. It was a hard fought battle but NCU was able to prevail in a final score of 82-74.
The game started in a heated battle between the two squads. Strong play on both ends for both teams kept the game close through the first. With the largest lead hitting five at its highest, both teams would continue to fight to the break where the scored was tied at 32-32 a piece. Shooting percentages from the field and from behind the arc were nearly identical between the squads.Â
After the break, it was the same story. It wasn't until there was 11 minutes left in the contest, when the blue and gold finally put a stretch together. Going a 13-0 run, the Rams took a nine point lead and would not relinquish that lead for the remainder of the game.
Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA) was able to start that stretch with back-to-back three's to shift all the momentum to the NCU squad. With the game leaning in favor of the Rams from that point on, NWU was able to keep the game close all the way to the buzzer. The Wolves were able to bring the score back to a one possession game multiple times before the end, but downtown U was able to hold off.Â
