St. Paul, MN -- The North Central University (NCU) Rams Women's Basketball squad faced off against DII program, Concordia-St. Paul (CSP) in an exhibition match on the Golden Bear's home court. After a short drive, the Rams gave their all against CSP. Even with a strong effort, NCU would eventually lose the contest 80-40.
NCU came out strong, leading the game in the initial 3 minutes of the first quarter. The Ram's consistency in getting into the paint was the key to their early success and throughout the entire night. CSP began to execute their game plan shortly after, hitting back-to-back threes to take momentum. Throughout the first half, the Rams were able to keep within striking distance, holding the Golden Bears' lead steady at a 9-point spread. However, Downtown U committed some crucial fouls, sending CSP to the free throw line, where they would cash in on half of their total free throw makes on the game. Concordia led at the break with a score of 39-21.
Once again, the Rams displayed their resiliency and came out of the halftime locker room hot by scoring the first couple of buckets of quarter three. As the offense set the tone, North Central's defense also ramped up the intensity, putting pressure on the DII team. 13 total turnovers were committed by Concordia in the contest, which the Rams were able to capitalize on by scoring 10 points off turnovers. Still trailing, NCU never let up.
Coach Szabla drew up some pretty offensive sets in the fourth, but CSP's shot efficiency and rebounding advantage resulted in a Golden Bear 80-40 win.
