Hancock, MI -- North Central University (NCU) Rams women's basketball team competed against Finlandia University (FU) in the first game of the weekend road trip. The Rams could not find a rhythm against the Lions with a cold shooting night on the road. NCU lost the battle with a deficit of 21 points in a final score of 49-70.
The blue and gold started slow, as the Lions were able to jump out to a 13-5. The Rams fought hard to stay in the game, going on a 7-0 run to bring the score back within one.
Piper Flemming sparked the run with five points of her own. The Lions would not be denied as they pulled back to a ten point lead, 27-17 with just a few minutes remaining in the half. As the half came to a close, Finlandia lead 33-23. Foul trouble lead the Rams defecit as they had 11 in the half comapared to the Lions 4.
Quarter three was a back-and-forth battle.North Central scratched and clawed but the deficit remained at 10 for most of the third. Finlandia was able to stretch the lead to fourteen by the end of the third, making the comeback potential for NCU much tougher. The Rams shot just 1-8 from behind the arc in the third . In the fourth quarter, FU gained the hot hand once again with some turnovers and constant three-pointers helping bolster their lead. Second chance points gave the Lions a lot more opportunities to gain the advantage. The Rams ended the night losing 49-70.
