MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- All decked out in baby blue, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team hosted Crown College in the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) event. The Rams routed the Storm for the second time this season with a 90-60 win and reach the most wins in the regular season in program history.
Game Recap
It was a competitive first quarter as both teams applied high intensity on the defensive end.
Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) brought her speed and skill right from the start as she found herself constantly at the rim or the free throw line. CC's offensive rebounding kept them in the game in the first ten minutes, but the Ram's offense heated up in the second quarter as they outscored the Storm 19-9.
Naomi Hagstrom (Zimmerman, MN, Zimmerman High School) drilled two three pointers in the second and
Aubrey Robinson (Colorado Springs, CO, Sierra High School) added some post ups down low. With this surge of offense, NCU went into halftime up 39-26.
And it was all up from here. The Rams went on a 10-5 run, ramping up the crowd with steals from their press defense and cashing three's in the corners. NCU was able to shut down CC's offensive rebounding and instead got some offensive boards of their own. These extra possessions pushed the score in the Ram's favor. The second half was full of and-one plays in the paint for NCU which they capitalized off of. The fourth quarter sealed the Storm's fate as the Rams got another win as the Big Horn Sheep.
NCU improves their record to 17-3 (6-3
UMAC), reaching the most wins in the regular season in program history. The win also gives NCU the third seed in the
UMAC.
