Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball escape with the win off of Filer's 40 points

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Hoping to bounce back from last night's game, the North Central University (NCU) hosted the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup. The Rams hold onto to their lead throughout the game to get the victory with a final score of 84-77.

Game Recap

The Rams got off to a hot start off of back to back three from Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian School) and Tanner Holtman (Aurora, CO, Grandview High School). In the opening minutes, NCU went on a 8-2 run and kept that momentum going to gain a 16 point lead. Filer couldn't be stopped on the offensive end as he drained five three pointers in the first half alone scoring 23 points. And the pressure from NCU's defense caused 11 UMM turnovers and the Rams scored 11 points because of them. But the Cougars clawed their way back into the game in the second ten minutes to make the score 43-40 going into halftime.

The second half was much more competitive, but the Rams always stayed ahead of the Cougars. Again, NCU forced even more turnovers on UMM and capitalized from their great defense. Holtman, Konrad Bueckers (Pine River, MN), and Jonathan Thompson (Kansas City, MO, Park Hill South High School) helped out with the score in the paint as they used their size to get some baskets. Filer continued his phenomenal shooting in the second half, pushing the Rams towards the victory. The Cougars managed to get the game pretty close in the closing minutes, but NCU pulled away with some free throws.

The Rams move to 11-10 on the season and even out to 5-5 in the UMAC.

Key Performers
  • Micah Filer lit up the court with 40 points and eight rebounds.
  • Tanner Holtman put up eight points with two made three pointers.

Looking Ahead

The Rams travel to the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) this coming Friday with a game slated for 7:15 pm. The Rams lost a nail-biter to UWS earlier in the season as the teams battle for the fourth seed in the UMAC standings.
