ASHLAND, Wisc. -- Looking to rise in the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) standings, the North Central University (NCU) softball team took the road up to Northland College (NC). The Lumberjills stood their ground and walked away with two wins with scores of 16-1 and 10-2.
Game One Recap
Emma Cochran (Chewelah, WA) got the Rams off to a good start with a single to third base and then advanced to second with a steal, but unfortunately was some of NCU's only offensive action of the night. On the flip side, NC managed to score in every inning. They first snagged two runs in the first followed by six more in the second.
Cochran made it on base again in the third inning and was joined by
Sydney Harmon (Meno, OK) but the inning ended before either could find their way to home plate. The Lumberjills added three runs to their score in the bottom of the third inning. The Rams finally put a run on the board in the fourth inning when
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) doubled to left field to bring in
Hosanna Gattle (Merrit Island, FL). Yet, NC continued to answer, this time with five more runs. The Lumberjills secured their win with three quick outs in the fifth and final inning.
Game Two Recap
The top of the first inning didn't see much change from the first game of the day, but the Rams did hold NC scoreless in the bottom of the first with a strike out by pitcher
Gattle and two outfield outs by
Cochran and
Carrasco. NCU's bat started connecting more in the second inning with a single each from
Brooke McGlinchey (Belle Plaine, MN),
Aurora Prettyman (Portland, OR), and
Gattle.
McGlinchey eventually scored off of a hit from
Kali Kahalekomo (Muncie, IN). The Lumberjills found their offensive rhythm again and banged out seven runs in the bottom of the second and scored two more in the third inning.
Katelynn Fox (Hedesville, WV) singled to center field in the fourth inning to bring in
Gattle for another run.
Isabella Gallardo (Austin, TX, ) secured two outs for the Rams at second base in the bottom of the fourth. NCU hit three swift outs in the final inning as NC scored one more run to complete the sweep of the Rams with a final score of 10-2.
