COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Coming off of a doubleheader the day before, the North Central University (NCU) baseball team revamped for their single game affair against Northland College (NC) from the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). A sensational first inning aided in the Rams 10-3 victory over the Lumberjacks.
Game Recap
NCU could not have started the game better as they forced NC to play defense very quickly and then put on a show in the bottom of the first inning on offense. First,
Jack Parker (Bordentown, NJ, Bordentown Regional High School) doubled to left field bringing in
Teyghan Hovland (Austin, MN, Austin High School).
Parker then scored an unearned run himself.
Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ, Amphitheater High school) crossed home plate after a single from
Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ, Cienega High School) followed by an unearned run by
Christian Rodriguez (Tuscon, AZ, Catalina Foothills High School). And finally,
Kyle Huerth (Moorpark, CA, Moorpark High School) singled to left field to bring in
Noah Block (Greendale, WI, Greendale Senior High School) and
Montana. These two runs finished up the the first inning as the Rams brought in eight runs.
The second inning to the fifth were much more tame compared to the first as none of the teams scored a single run. Pitcher
Kristian Garcia (Las Vegas, LV, Palo Verde High School) threw a couple of strikeouts to aid the defensive effort along with center fielder
Huerth and second baseman
Montana. The offense for both teams picked up in the sixth innings where the Lumberjacks and the Rams scored two runs each. On NCU's side,
Matthew Oakley (Concord, NC, International Christian School of Budapest) and
Rodriguez both scored unearned runs. NC scored the final run of the game in the seventh inning. The Lumberjack's little offensive spurt at the end couldn't overturn the damage the Rams inflicted in the first inning.
