Volleyball Drops Home Contest with UWS 3-0

Minneapolis, MN -- Tonight, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball team jumped back into Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play after splitting games with non-conference opponents Central College and Lawrence University last weekend. The Rams would host the Yellowjackets from the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) who sat in 3rd place in the conference entering tonight's matchup. Unable to keep up with the fast-paced offensive attack of the Yellowjackets, NCU would fall 3-0.

The early stages of set one would go back and forth. Freshman Sydney Carlson would have a hot start in this one, recording 3 kills and 1 ace to lead the Rams as they would trail by just one point 12-11. Unfortunately, UWS would find a groove as they rattled off 6 straight points to pull away. The Yellowjackets would take the first set with a score of 25-16. Set two would also go in favor of UW-Superior 25-16. In a set where North Central never led, Carlson would pick up 4 more kills to add to her total. In the third set, the Rams would come out motivated as they opened with a 4-2 lead off of a pair of huge kills by outside hitter Lola Huhta. However, par to the course, Superior would go on another big 6-point run to take back control. North Central would not go away, however, as the Rams would keep the game within striking distance at 14-13. Strong play by UWS down the stretch would close out the set 25-19 and give the Yellowjackets the 3-0 victory.

Looking Ahead:

The Rams have a quick turnaround as the team will host Northland College tomorrow at 1:00 pm. in their final regular season home match.
