New Ulm, MN -- Tonight, the North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team hit the road for New Ulm, where the Rams would take on the Martin Luther College (MLC) Knights. NCU would look to bounce back after a 9-point loss to Bethany Lutheran last night. The Rams would respond in a big way, shooting 50% from both the field and three-point range while also landing a season-high 15 three-pointers. North Central would get their first conference win on the year with the 93-72 victory over MLC.
The game would not start the way the Rams had hoped, as the Knights opened up a 6-1 lead with an emphatic dunk that erupted the home crowd. NCU would respond by eventually tying things at 6-6 after 5 minutes gone. It would not be until a 3-pointer by junior Nik Feller that the Rams would gain their first lead at 9-8. This would spark a 10-0 run for North Central. At 12:42, the teams began spraying three-point bombs as the Rams would drill four to Martin Luther's one and force a Knights timeout with NCU leading 25-13. MLC would battle back to cut the lead to just one with 6:30 remaining in the half and the score 29-28. Remy Wedgeworth-Brown would take over, scoring 11 points in the final minutes and sending NCU into the locker room with the 48-39 lead. The Rams shot an exquisite 58.62% (17-29) from the field and 61.54% (8-13) from three.
The teams would trade buckets through the first two minutes of half number two. Then captain Cameron Thomas would score 5 straight to stretch the lead to 17 with the score 60-43. As expected, MLC refused to throw in the towel as they were able to shrink the lead to just 7 with 11:07 left. However, the Rams would rattle off 12 unanswered, including two threes by Nik Feller and a pair of layups from sophomore Carmello McNeal. The score was now 78-59, with NCU comfortably in front. The final minutes of this one would be capped off by a pair of three-pointers from freshman Kenyon Davis and junior Steven Colon. North Central went on to win 93-72 to get their first conference win.
