Rams Lose Close Game Against Crown College

St. Peters, MN -- North Central University's (NCU) Baseball team played a neutral site game against the Crown College Polars. They were considered the away team in this conference match-up between the two teams. The Rams outhit the Polars but committed seven errors on the day. 
 

North Central led off the game by going 1, 2, 3, in the top of the first. Christian Rodriguez would trot out to the mound for the Rams on the mound. After giving up a single, Crown would hit a home run taking a 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, North Central would get a run back from a fielder's choice hit by Julian Encinas. Crown would tack on another run in their half of the inning. After a quiet third inning, Daniel Montana would hit a lead-off solo home run to bring the game within one. After two walks, Encinas would hit a single and both runs would score, taking the lead 4-3. The Polars would jump on the Rams' pitching and score three runs in retaliation. After Kyle Huerth reached on a fielder's choice, Montana would hit his second home run on the day, bringing NCU back within one run. Crown would keep scoring runs, keeping their lead to three runs. The score after five innings was 9-6 Crown. Crown would score four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. They would also get another run in the bottom of the seventh, making the score 14-6. The Blue and Gold would not go down without a fight. In the top of the ninth, Huerth got hit by a pitch and Montana would follow up by reaching on an error. Teagan Burch singled scoring a run. Michael Escalante would hit a double scoring Montana and move Burch to third. Chris Garza hit a 2 RBI single and would make the score 14-10, But Crown would finish off the Rams rally with a strikeout. The final was 14-10.

Key Performers:

  • Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ) went 3-5 at the plate with a pair of home runs, with three RBIs.
  • Teagan Burch (St. Paul, MN) went 2-2, with an RBI and scored a run.
  • Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ) had a hit with three RBIs also.
 

Looking Ahead:

North Central Baseball will travel back to St. Peters to face off against Crown and finish off their three-game series on Sunday, April 23rd. The first pitch is at 1 PM.
