St. Peters, MN -- North Central's Baseball team (NCU) finished up their series against the Crown College Polars in St. Peters. NCU was considered the away team in the neutral site doubleheader. The Rams struggled to get runs across the board, tallying two total runs in both games.
Game one:
Michael Escalante would get the start for NCU in game one. Crown would get a run in the first and would continue to tack on runs throughout the next eight innings. by the end of the seventh inning, the score was 9-0 in favor of the Polars. In the top of the eighth inning, Mike Maanum would hit a home run to break the scoreless bid from Crown. The inning would continue to be productive for the Rams as Kyle Huerth would be hit by a pitch. Daniel Montana would hit a single advancing Huerth to third. Teagan Burch would follow with a single of his own, scoring Huerth and making the game 9-2 by the end of the inning. Crown would score three more runs in the bottom half of the inning, ending the game in eight innings 12-2.
Game two:
Devin O'Dell started game two and the Polars would jump on him immediately scoring two in the first. Crown would continue to pile on runs throughout the game scoring 22 in total. When the Rams were on offense, they would have ample opportunities to score runs with runners in scoring position, but couldn't manufacture those runs. In the top of the third, Christian Rodriguez would single and advance to second on a passed ball. Maanum would single again, but it wouldn't bring the run home. In the top of the seventh, Lorenzo Bazan would draw a walk, and Maanum would hit his second single of the game advancing him to second base. Huerth would hit a ground ball to shortstop, putting runners on second and third. The Rams couldn't bring those runners home and the game ended in seven innings with a score of 22-0 in favor of Crown.
Top Performers:
- Mike Maanum (Fergus Falls, MN) went 3-7 on the day, including a home run and an RBI.
- Teagan Burch (St. Paul, MN) had three hits on six plate appearances with an RBI also.
Looking Ahead:
North Central Baseball will travel to Roseville on Tuesday to take on the Northwestern Eagles in a single game, with the first pitch at 6 PM.
