Morris, MN -- NCU Softball hit the road today and headed up to Morris, Minnesota, where they would play the first of three games this weekend. In their first matchup today, the team would play the Cougars of Minnesota-Morris (UMM). Offense would continue to be an area of struggle for the Rams as they were unable to score any runs in a 16-0 win for UMM.
Recap:
After missing a couple of games due to injury, Carla Mendoza would return to the mound for NCU. Mendoza, the sophomore, would strike out the first batter of the day. Unable to keep up the great start, NCU would walk two batters and hit one. The Cougars were able to put up 5 runs in the top of the first. Delaney Riddle would get on base with a liner to left center, but the Rams would be retired before getting in scoring position. Top of the second, North Central would tighten up their defense, only allowing for one run to be scored. However, the next two innings at bat for the Rams would result in 5 strikeouts and 1 line-out in 6 total at bats. The games sat at 8-0 going into the top of the fourth inning. UMM was able to really get the bats going with 7 hits bringing home 6 total runs to expand the lead to 14-0. In the bottom of the inning, Aurora Prettyman would get the only other hit of the day for the Blue and Gold, followed by a Mendoza walk. Unfortunately, the Rams would leave two runners on base and score no runs. The Cougars would score two more runs in the fifth, and NCU would have a 1,2,3 inning before this one was decided. MN-Morris walked away with the 16-0 victory.
Looking Ahead:
Softball will stay in Morris to play a doubleheader tomorrow 4/29. First, they will face Crown College at 12 PM, followed by the University of Northwestern at 4 PM.
