NCU Baseball Can't Get the Road Win Versus the Eagles

Roseville, MN -- North Central University's (NCU) Baseball team traveled to Reynolds Field to play a single game against the University of Northwestern (UNW) Eagles. NCU would get on the board first, but couldn't keep up the pace. In a game where NCU would lead in total hits, the team was unable to convert them into runs and would lose 7-2.

Christian Rodriguez would get the start at the mound for the Rams. In the first, senior Kyle Huerth would get things started with a single to left field, followed by a stolen base to advance him to second. They would get walked once to add another runner on base, but then would stall out. Rodriguez, Christian did his job in the bottom of the first, allowing his defense to make plays in the field and getting the first three outs. Mike Maanum would 2 RBI double to left center to open up the scoring for NCU in the top of two. They would then give up just one run to the Eagles to keep a 2-1 lead. Neither team could get anything going in the third inning, both going down 1,2,3. The fourth would feature one lone hit by Chris Garza with a single to center field. UNW started to mount their comeback in the fifth inning, scoring 3 runs off of 2 hits and a costly error by North Central. Both teams would go scoreless in the sixth inning. Northwestern would make a pitching change in the top of the seventh, and was able to keep the Rams from getting anywhere close to scoring position. Errors proved to remain costly for NCU with the Eagles scoring two additional runs off of two more fielding errors. NCU would get out 1,2,3 in the tip of the eighth inning. Senior Tanner Oka would come in to pitch in the bottom of the inning and would give up just one run. Down five runs, the Rams would need to rally in the ninth in order to mount a comeback. Unable to do so, the Eagles would walk away victorious with the 7-2 win.

Key Performers:
