NCU Baseball Shows Out on Senior Night

Roseville, MN -- North Central University's (NCU) Baseball team hosted senior night against the Martin Luther College Knights. NCU celebrated the careers of seniors Kyle Huerth and Tanner Oka. The Blue and Gold would end up winning by mercy rule in the eighth inning.

Michael Escalante started on the mound for today's game. The Knights would get two early runs by the end of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Mike Maanum would start the Rams off with a single and Huerth would reach on an error. Daniel Montana singled to left scoring Maanum and moving Huerth to third base. Teagan Burch would draw a walk loading the bases. Julian Encinas would step up to the plate and hit a grand slam over the right field wall, notching his first home run on the year. NCU would not be done scoring, Chris Garza hit a single to right field. After that, Martin Luther would hit two batters in a row. With bases loaded and one out Maanum would come back up to the plate, hitting a double and scoring two more runs. Huerth hit a sacrifice fly, scoring the eighth run of the inning. Montana hit a single capping off a nine-run inning and taking the lead 9-2. The Knights would come back in the following innings tying the game at nine in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the inning, Montana would reach on a hit-by-pitch. He would get to second, then steal third. Garza hit a triple scoring another run and Christian Rodriguez singled scoring him. Martin Luther would not go down without a fight. They would score two more, making the game 11-11. In the bottom of the fifth Cameron Pittman reached on a walk and stole second. Huerth would reach on a catcher's interference and Montana would draw a walk. Burch would come up to the plate and hit a double scoring two runs. After back to back walks, Rodriguez would single to right field scoring two runs also. By the end of the fifth, the score was 16-11 in favor of the Rams. Oka would come in relief and give up one unearned run in the sixth. After that run a switch was flipped and he would go scoreless in the seventh and eighth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Rams would score three runs off a Montana single and a Burch two-run home run. In the seventh, Huerth would have an RBI triple and Montana knocked him in with a single. The Rams would load the bases in the eighth and Huerth would end senior day with a walk-off infield hit. The North Central University Rams won the game 22-12. 

Key Performers:

  •  Kyle Huerth (Moorpark, CA) went 2-5 with a triple and the walk off hit. He had three RBIs.
  • Tanner Oka (Mililani, HI) got the win on the mound and only gave up three hits.
  • Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ) went 4-4 with four RBIs.
  • Julian Encinas (Tucson, AZ) went 2-4 with a grand slam and a double, tallying four RBIs.
  • Christian Rodriguez (Tuscon, AZ) went 3-5 with three RBIs.


Looking Ahead:

North Central Baseball will head to Mankato to play a single game against Bethany Lutheran College, with the first pitch at 3 PM!
