Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) Women's Soccer squared off with the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets today in its first UMAC game of the season. The Rams would struggle to possess the ball in this one, leading to an insurmountable shot disadvantage, as NCU would record just 3 total shots Superior's 30 shots. Those shots would translate into points for the Yellowjackets, as they would record seven goals to win this one 7-0.
The first half would go heavily in the Yellowjackets' favor. UWS would score in the first 4 minutes to take the early lead. Senior captain
Isabella Connell (Champlin, MN) would record the Rams' lone shot attempt in the first half.
Connell is coming off a great week, where she posted 3 total goals in two matches. Both
Connell and
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA) found themselves getting shadowed by Yellowjacket defenders most of the game, not allowing the Rams' two leading scorers to get anything going. UWS would tack on 3 more goals coming in the 15th, 24th, and 27th minute of the game. The Rams trailed 4-0 going into the break. Goalkeeper
Abigail Herbolsheimer (Tawas City, MI) was greatly challenged this afternoon, facing 30 total shots, 18 shots on goal, and saving 10 total shots. Superior would go on to win 7-0.
North Central would not start the second half of action the way they hoped, allowing Superior to tally another goal just five minutes in. The Rams would only record two shots in the 2nd half, one by Lewis and the other by freshman
Jessica Redman (Beaver Dam, WI). UW-Superior would stretch their lead to 6 with a goal in the 68th minute. In the 77th minute, a costly NCU foul in the box would lead to a penalty kick goal for UWS to make the deficit 7-0.
