Lumberjills Score Last Minute Goal to Tie the Rams

Ashland, WI -- North Central University (NCU) enters its second week of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play as women's soccer hit the road for Ashland, Wisconsin to take on the Lumberjills of Northland College. NCU would take the lead in the 82nd minute of the game, only to allow a Northland goal in the last minute of regulation. The Rams came in looking for their first win of the season but fell short as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

In the first half, both teams traded shots back and forth as the two squads combined for a total of 16 shots. In the first 13 minutes, Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA) and Jessica Redman (Beaver Dam, WI) combined for a total of four shots. Later in the half, Lewis and fellow senior Isabella Connell (Champlin, MN) would each get off shot attempts but none would find the back of the net. Sophomore goalie, Abigail Herbolsheimer (Tawas City, MI) had a strong first-half performance able to shut out the Lumberjills offense. Herbolsheimer had a total of 7 saves and allowed no goals in the first 45 minutes of the game.

To start the second half, NCU and Northland would trade shots within the first few minutes. The Ram's defense would prevent the Lumberjill's from getting any shots on goal for most of the half. In the 82nd minute, freshman Ramiyah Words (Greenfield, WI) scored her first collegiate goal, as the Rams took a 1-0 lead over the Lumberjills. Lewis would record the beautiful assist on the Rams' scoring play. In the 89th minute of this contest, Northland was able to strike back to tie the game at one apiece. In the final minute of the game, neither team would see another score chance as the final buzzer sounded ending tonight's game in a 1-1 tie.
