Morris, MN -- The North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team made their way to Morris to take on the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) Cougars. When the Rams saw the Cougars earlier this season, the NCU was dealt an unfortunate home loss with a final score of 3-0. In their second regular season meeting, NCU was defeated 2-1 on the Cougars' home field. Sophomore
Jessica Redman scored her first goal of the season in the waning minutes of the match.
With NCU's starting goalkeeper out for the season, Rams' defender
Tayler Boudreaux saw her first career start in net. The Cougars got to work quickly, scoring on the Rams in the 3rd minute of the half off of a penalty kick. UMM gained momentum, with four consecutive shots directly following the initial goal. North Central's keeper was able to make two saves, holding the Cougars to only one goal. NCU struggled to produce offensively, totaling no shot attempts in the first half.
Newcomer
Ashlynn Sherman had an early shot in the second half, but UMM responded with six shots to attempt to build on their lead. However, Boudreaux was up to the challenge, making several key saves. The Cougars doubled their lead with a goal at the 80th minute, putting more pressure on the Rams. Just a few minutes later, NCU found their footing with a goal from
Jessica Redman, assisted by
Ramiyah Words, bringing the score to 2-1. But North Central would run out of time, resulting in a final score of 2-1 with Morris as the victor.
