Track and Field Posts Big Day at Gene Glader Classic

Arden Hills, MN -- The North Central University (NCU) men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Gene Glader Classic hosted by Bethel University today. Numerous school records were broken including the 60-meter dash by sophomore Serena Lanes and the weight throw for the third time this season by graduate student Micayla Jones.


Throws
:

Breaking her indoor school record for weight throw for the third time this season was MiCayla Jones. She broke her previous mark in the prelims with a throw of 13.48 meters, qualifying her for the finals where she finished 8th overall in a competitive field of women. This mark is currently 3rd best in the UMAC. Jones also took to the shot put, finishing 7th overall with a mark of 9.37 meters (7th UMAC). 


Sprints
:

The day started off strong with Nevaeh Henderson, Deshawna Hodges, and Serena Lanes qualifying for the 60-meter finals. Lanes broke the school record in the prelims in a time of 8.38 seconds (4th UMAC). In the finals, Hodges finished on top for the Rams in 4th place at 8.40 seconds (5th UMAC), Lanes at 8.44 seconds for 5th, and Henderson at 8.50 seconds for 6th (9th UMAC).

In the 200-meter dash, Serena Lanes and Deshawna Hodges continued to dominate with times of 28.51 and 28.52 seconds, respectively (6th & 7th UMAC). 

Freshman Ja'Corey Jazzmere was the top finisher for the men's team in the 400-meter with a new personal best time of 56.46 seconds overall. For the women, Chloe Bjorlin managed a new personal best in the race of 1:07.14.


Distance:

The Rams distance crew had a big showing in the 800-meter dash. On the women's side, Jessica Redman took the top time in 2:40.36, good for 2nd place in the event (9th UMAC). For the men, Garrett Converse hit a massive personal best in a time of 2:10.15 for a 5th place finish (8th UMAC).


Relays:

The women's 4x200 meter relay ran for the first time this season with the team comprised of Deshawna Hodges,  Nevaeh Henderson, Chloe Bjorlin, and Serena Lanes. They posted an impressive season best of 1:55.81 and a new school record (3rd UMAC). 

To end the meet, the women's 4x400 meter relay made up of Amira DiSabatino, Hope Naegelen, Jessica Redman, and Avah Kraushaar finished in a 4:47.37. The men's team of Ja'Corey Jazzmere, Eli Salonek, Garrett Converse, and Michael Herr-Zielke ran to a collective time of 3:55.02 overall.


Jumps
:

In the men's high jump, Isaac Weiers won the meet with his impressive mark of 1.88 meters overall (2nd UMAC). 

Taking to the long jump, Deshawna Hodges hit yet another personal best on the day with a mark of 4.38 meters, good for 5th place (9th UMAC).


Looking ahead:

The track and field teams compete next weekend at the 2024 UMAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 23rd - 24th. The championship meet will take place at the Lydia Thering Fieldhouse on the campus of Wisconsin-Superior.
