Track & Field Competes at the Bethel Invite

Arden Hills, MN -- North Central University Track and Field competed at the Bethel Invite hosted by Bethel University today. The day was highlighted by numerous personal bests, a program record, and athletes qualifying for the 2024 NCCAA National Meet. 

Sprints:

Starting the day off in the 100-meter hurdles, Ramiyah Words finished with a time of 18.28 seconds. In the Women's 100-meter dash, Serena Lanes led the way for the Rams with a time of 13.28 seconds (4th in UMAC). Freshman Deshawna Hodges crossed the finish line in 13.39 seconds (5th in UMAC) and Nevaeh Henderson finished with a PR time of 13.54 seconds. In the women's 200-meter, Deshawna Hodges led the team running 27.61 seconds (5th in UMAC), shaving almost a whole second off of her time from last weekend. Following close behind her was Serena Lanes who came in with a time of 27.63 seconds. For the 400-meter dash, Brycelyn Brewster punched her ticket to the 2024 NCCAA National Meet with a time of 1:02.49 (4th in UMAC) and Savi Rael set a new PR time of 1:05.16 seconds.

On the men's side, Nehemiah Juaire ran an 11.68 in the men's 100-meter dash. In the men's 400-meter dash, freshman Ja'Corey Jazzmere ran a new PR time of 54.16 seconds. 

Distance:

For the women's 800-meter run, freshman Jessica Redman led NCU's pack and finished with a time of 2:38.88 (6th in UMAC). Hope Naegelen ran a PR in the event with a time of 2:53.48. Avah Kraushaar took on the 5k today and finished with a time of 22:24.69.

For the men's team, the Rams had a huge showing from Garrett Converse. In the 800-meter, Converse broke his personal best with a time of 2:06.46 (7th in UMAC). He more impressively broke his personal best in the 1,500m by 7 seconds with a time of 4:25.57 (5th in UMAC). Senior Michael Herr-Zielke also set a PR in the event with a time of 4:44.77.

Jumps:

For women's jumps, freshman Kristen Ragasa recorded a distance of 8.90m in the triple jump and 4.01m in the long jump. Fellow freshman, Chloe Bjorlin jumped a distance of 4.14m in the long jump.

For the men's team, Nehemiah Juaire led the way by jumping 1.78m in the men's high jump. 
 
Throws:

Freshman thrower Grace King shined as she led the team in discus, crushing her PR with a distance of 32.14m (6th in UMAC). She also broke a school record with her Javelin throw of 25.42m and set a new PR in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 29.09m. Graduate student MiCayla Jones led the way in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 32.66m. Jones also threw a season-best 9.52m in the shot put. 

The Men's Javelin was led by Isaac Weiers with a throw of 39.63m. 

Relays:

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Nevaeh Henderson, Serena Lanes, Chloe Bjorlin, and Deshawna Hodges broke the NCU school record in a time of 52.42 overall (4th in UMAC). 

The women's 4x400 relay team of Brycelyn Brewster, Deshawna Hodges, Savi Rael, and Serena Lanes set a new season-best time of 4:14.61 (1st in UMAC).
 
Looking Ahead:

The men's and women's throwers will be heading to the Gustie Twilight Meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College on this Wednesday, April 17th.
