NCU Track & Field Competes at Hamline Invitational

St. Paul, MN -- Today, the North Central University Track and Field teams took on the first outdoor meet of the season! This meet was highlighted by numerous personal bests, broken school records, and marks qualifying for NCCAA Nationals to start the outdoor season. 

Sprints:

Starting the day off in the 100-meter hurdles, Ramiyah Words began her season with a time of 18.78 seconds. In the Women's 100-meter dash, freshman Deshawna Hodges crossed the finish line in 13.33 seconds to lead all North Central sprinters. Nevaeh Henderson followed close behind with a time of 13.84 seconds. In the women's 200-meter, Deshawna Hodges led the team running 28.39 seconds. Following her was Brycelyn Brewster who came in with a time of 28.57 seconds. For the 400-meter dash, newcomer Savi Rael took control running a time of 1:05.16 seconds.

On the men's side, captain Derek Burgin took to the track as he qualified for NCCAA Nationals and broke his personal best with a time of 51.77 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Distance:

For the women's 800-meter run, freshman Jessica Redman led NCU's pack and finished with a time of 2:40.10.

For the men's team, the Rams had a huge showing from Garrett Converse. In the 800-meter, Converse broke his personal best with a time of 2:07.98. He more impressively broke his personal best in the 1,500m by 25 seconds with a time of 4:32.22. David Bjorge also broke a personal best in the 5k running a time of 18:47.38

Jumps:

Leading North Central today for women's jumps was freshman Kristen Ragasa with a distance of 8.93m in triple jump and 4.32m in long jump. Closely following was fellow freshman Chloe Bjorlin, breaking a personal best with a distance of 4.31m in the long jump.

For the men's team, Isaac Weiers took on the High Jump and qualified for NCCAA Nationals with a height of 1.85m
 
Throws:

Freshmen thrower Grace King led the team in discus throwing a distance of 26.19m and broke a school record with her Javelin throw of 22.34m. Following this, the Women's Hammer school record was broken back-to-back. First broken by Miriam Anderson throwing a 29.51m then followed by MiCayla Jones throwing a 34.16m breaking both her personal best and claiming the new program record.

The Men's Javelin school record was also broken by Caleb Lundt with a personal best throw of 42.90m.
 
Looking Ahead:

The Track and Field teams will compete at the Bethel Invitational in Arden Hills, MN next Saturday starting at 9:00 AM.
