Minneapolis, MN -- On Wednesday night, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team played Hamline University under the lights in Minneapolis. North Central entered today's match still winless after suffering losses to Buena Vista and Faith Baptist to start the year. Today, NCU definitely ran out of gas and could not keep up with the deep bench of the Pipers. Hamline won by a score of 5-0.
The first half was all Hamline, as the Pipers had no issues entering the NCU zone and putting pressure on early. Hamline ripped off 16 shots in the first half, as NCU would not be able to muster a single one. Even with the Rams' offensive struggles, NCU was able to keep the game close as HU was only after to score once to make it 1-0 at halftime. Getting her third straight start in net, goalie
Renae Juni totaled 5 saves in the 45 minutes of play.
The second half would feature much of the same, as Hamline fired a flurry of shots at the goal. The Pipers eventually doubled their lead with a goal in the 59th minute. Just three minutes later, they found the back of the net once more. HU scored twice more to eventually make it 5-0. Coming off the bench,
Catelyn Ketterling gave fresh legs to a very exhausted Rams team and immediately fired a shot when she had the chance. NCU also saw shots from
Madeline Lowe and
Paula Capili.
Renae Juni added 7 more saves to bring her grand total to 12 on the evening before she was relieved of her goalkeeping duties.
Erma Ramirez entered for the final nine minutes of the game and recorded her first save of the season. Hamline went on to win 5-0.
