Becker, MN -- North Central University (NCU) women's golf traveled to Becker, MN to compete in this year's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship Meet, hosted at the Pebble Creek Golf Club. The Rams closed out their fall season with a strong showing, highlighted by freshman
Brooklyn Barton, who earned a top-15 finish, and a notable three-day improvement from freshman
Claire Nelsen, who posted her best round of the season on championship Saturday.
In Thursday's opening round, freshman
Brooklyn Barton led the way with a steady 97 (+25), placing herself in 16th place after day one.
Hannah Wolf followed close behind with a 102 (+30), while
Claire Nelsen posted a 113 (+41) in her championship debut.
On Friday, the Rams settled in and showed noticeable improvement across the board. Barton delivered her lowest single-round score of the season with a composed 90 (+18) to climb up one place overall. Wolf shaved three strokes off her opening round to record a 99 (+27), continuing to find consistency off the tee and on the greens. Nelsen also improved, cutting three strokes from her first-round total with a 110 (+38).
The Rams closed out the UMAC Championship with an encouraging finish on Saturday. Barton once again paced NCU with a 96 (+24), finishing the tournament with a 283 (+67) total and securing 15th place overall in her first collegiate conference championship. Wolf rounded out her championship effort with a 103 (+31) to finish tied for 18th at 304 (+88). The story of the day belonged to Nelsen, who capped her weekend with a season-best 100 (+28), a remarkable 13-stroke improvement from her opening round to finish 23rd overall. Her steady three-day progression marked one of the brightest highlights for NCU's championship run and a strong personal finish to the fall season. Despite no team score, the freshman trio set a good foundation this fall season and look to make waves this upcoming spring.
