Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Greg Curtis as the next head coach of the women's golf program. Curtis brings more than 16 years of coaching experience to North Central, highlighted by a strong background in player development, golf instruction, and mentoring student-athletes both on and off the course. He assumes his new role immediately.
Curtis joins the Rams after spending the past 16 years working as a golf instructor and coach at facilities including Eagle Lake Golf and Parker's Lake Golf. Throughout his career, he has focused on helping golfers of all skill levels improve their technical abilities while developing confidence, consistency, and a lifelong passion for the game. In addition to his golf instruction experience, Curtis has served as a varsity golf coach at both Providence Academy (5 years) and Park Center High School (2 years). His coaching experience extends well beyond golf, having spent decades coaching basketball at numerous Minnesota high schools, including Orono, Benilde-St. Margaret's, Totino-Grace, St. Louis Park, Maple Grove, and Park Center High School. He has also coached girls basketball through both AAU and the Minnesota Lakers Basketball program. This extensive coaching background has allowed Curtis to develop a well-rounded approach to athlete development, leadership, and team culture.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to coach at the collegiate level and help student-athletes continue to grow both on and off the golf course," said Curtis. "What attracted me to North Central was the University's commitment to developing the whole person through both academic excellence and strong Christian values. My goal is to create an environment where our student-athletes gain the confidence to succeed in all areas of life, lower their scores on the course, compete for championships, and ultimately graduate with honors. I believe golf provides a unique platform to develop discipline, character, and leadership that will serve them long after their playing careers are over."
Curtis' coaching philosophy centers on individualized development and measurable improvement. Drawing upon over a decade of golf instruction experience and certifications through both the United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) and PGA, he believes every golfer has a unique path toward improvement. His approach emphasizes simplifying complex mechanics while also developing the mental game and strategic course management skills necessary for competitive success. Beyond technical instruction, Curtis is passionate about mentorship and character development. His coaching framework is rooted in the First Tee Program's nine core values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. He believes these values are essential in helping student-athletes succeed both during their collegiate careers and beyond.
Curtis holds certifications as a National Registry of Professional Golf Instructors member, a USGTF Certified Instructor, and a PGA Associate. These credentials, combined with his extensive instructional experience, provide a strong foundation for leading and growing the North Central women's golf program.
Over the course of his coaching career, Curtis has helped develop numerous student-athletes who have gone on to achieve success at both the collegiate and professional levels. Among his notable golf pupils is Paul Stankey of Providence Academy, who captured a Minnesota State Championship before continuing his academic and athletic career at Yale University. Beyond golf, Curtis has coached several standout athletes through his basketball coaching career, including Josiah Strong, who went on to play collegiate basketball at Colorado State University and currently plays professionally in Greece. He also coached Amani Hooker, who starred at Park Center High School before competing at the University of Iowa and ultimately reaching the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. These success stories reflect Curtis' long-standing commitment to athlete development, mentorship, and helping young people maximize their potential both in competition and in life.
Curtis currently resides in Plymouth, Minnesota, with his wife Peggy. Together, they have five married children and are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren. Family remains a central part of Curtis' life, and he enjoys spending as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren. His favorite sports team is the Tennessee Titans, and his favorite athlete is Tiger Woods.
Welcome to North Central, Coach Curtis!
