Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

NCU's Championship Hopes End in 68-64 Semifinal Loss to BLC

Minneapolis, MN -- Tonight, the men's basketball team from North Central University (NCU) hosted a UMAC Semifinal matchup at home against the Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) Vikings. North Central just faced the Vikings on Saturday, where the Rams took the victory on the road to end the regular season by a score of 86-72. However, despite a determined effort, NCU fell short tonight in a hard-fought battle, losing 68-64 and concluding their historic UMAC run.

The game started slowly for the Rams, as they struggled to find their rhythm offensively. NCU managed just 4 points in the first 6 minutes, allowing the Vikings to build an early double-digit lead. However, sparked by key contributions from Nik Feller and Carmello McNeal, the Rams gradually climbed back into contention. Junior Jaquan Adams provided a much-needed spark off the bench, finishing with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a block in just 12 minutes of action. A late surge helped NCU eventually tie the game at 27-27 nearing the 3-minute mark. The Rams struggled from deep, shooting just 18.2% (2-11) to the Vikings 50% (5-10). Despite their efforts, Bethany Lutheran responded with a strong finish to the half, heading into the break with a 38-27 lead.

Coming out of halftime, the Rams found a renewed energy. Senior Tanner Holtman ignited the offense with a series of clutch three-pointers, providing a much-needed boost. However, BLC extended their lead to 15 points, but NCU refused to back down. Layups and perimeter shots from Carrington McNeal and Holtman fueled a rally, bringing the Rams all the way back to a 64-64 tie to ignite the packed crowd. Unfortunately, offensive struggles reemerged in the closing minutes, as the Rams went scoreless for the final two minutes, allowing the Vikings to escape with a narrow 68-64 victory.
