Kissimmee, FL -- This afternoon, the softball team from North Central University (NCU) played their first doubleheader in The Spring Games in Florida. Today's games were at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex against the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Wildcats, in which the Wildcats took the victory over the Rams in game one with a score of 12-1 and a second victory with a score of 10-0.
Game 1: NCU 1, JWU 12
North Central started game one with an aggressive approach at the plate, quickly grabbing the early lead. Senior
Isabela Gallardo set the tone by drawing a leadoff walk and advancing to third on a well-placed sacrifice bunt by freshman
Addison Schroer. Senior
Aurora Prettyman capitalized on the opportunity, driving in Gallardo with an RBI single to right field to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Despite the strong start, NCU faced challenges defensively in the second inning, as Johnson & Wales took advantage of some miscues and timely hitting to put multiple runs on the board. Schroer, who started in the circle for the Rams, battled through five innings, limiting damage where possible despite tough defensive situations. Prettyman continued to be a bright spot for the Rams, recording both of the team's hits in the game. Defensively, the Rams continued to fight, working to keep innings manageable and limiting additional scoring opportunities late in the game. The Wildcats were able to run-rule the Rams in 5 innings, winning 12-1.Â
Game 2: NCU 0, JWU 10
North Central continued to battle in game two showing resilience despite a tough matchup.
Addison Schroer led the way offensively, recording the Rams' only hit of the game while also reaching base on a walk and swiping a bag. North Central worked the count well, drawing six walks and putting runners on base throughout the contest. However, timely hitting proved elusive, as the Rams stranded seven runners. Defensively, North Central fought to keep the game within reach, but a few miscues allowed JWU to capitalize. The Wildcats opened the scoring early and tacked on runs in each of the first three innings, including a home run and a key two-run single. Schroer battled on the mound, working through tough innings and limiting damage where possible. Despite the final score, the Rams showed patience at the plate and a willingness to compete. Johnson & Wales won 10-0 in 5 innings.Â
