Penfield/Victor, NY -- On Monday and Tuesday, the North Central University (NCU) men's golf team competed at their second-ever National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III National Championship Meet. The Rams qualified with an automatic bid this past fall after their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship title since 2012. This year's national championship was hosted by St. John Fisher University in Penfield and Victor, New York. The Rams gained valuable experience on the national stage, finishing 43rd in a competitive 43-team field.
Round 1 – Tuesday, May 20th | Midvale Country Club (Penfield, NY)
The championship opened under cool and breezy conditions at Midvale Country Club, where temperatures hovered in the mid-50s with steady winds between 10-15 mph. The par-72 course challenged players with firm greens and tight fairways. North Central battled through the conditions to post a team score of 343 (+55). Sophomore
Jacob Brown led the Rams with an opening round 82, followed closely by fellow sophomore
Cameron Jackson with an 86. Freshmen
Hector Avila (87),
Greg Salinas (88), and
Noah Klapmeier (88) rounded out the scoring group.
Round 2 – Wednesday, May 21st | Cobblestone Creek Country Club (Victor, NY)
Rain showers and gusty winds ranging from 10-20 mph added another layer of difficulty during today's second round at Cobblestone Creek Country Club. With temperatures again around 50 degrees, the course played longer and tested endurance. North Central carded a team score of 365 (+77) to bring their overall total to 708 (+132).
Jacob Brown once again paced the team, finishing with an 89 to total 171 (+27) for the event and placing 209th individually.
Hector Avila followed with a 91, while
Greg Salinas (92),
Noah Klapmeier (93), and
Cameron Jackson (95) fought through the tough conditions to complete their national championship debut.
