St. Paul, MN -- Friday, North Central University (NCU) Softball wrapped up its series at Reynolds Field in a weather-affected contest, with steady showers throughout the day. The Rams ultimately fell 9-0, but showed flashes of defensive execution and late baserunners.
North Central looked to respond early, but a pair of solo home runs in the opening inning created an early deficit. From there, the Rams settled in defensively, turning in multiple clean innings in the field. Freshman utility pitcher
Mykaela Broek battled through five innings in the circle, working around traffic with key ground ball outs and limiting further damage despite consistent pressure. After a quiet start offensively, the Rams began to find rhythm midway through the game. In the fourth inning, freshman outfielder
Abi Rogers sparked momentum with a single up the middle, followed by a base hit from sophomore infielder
Kaitlyn Havens to give North Central multiple baserunners in the frame. Junior first baseman
Erica Gilles reached safely on a fielder's choice, capitalizing on defensive pressure to extend the inning. Although the Rams were unable to convert, the sequence marked one of their strongest offensive pushes of the game. Rogers continued to lead the way at the plate, finishing 1-for-3, while Havens added a 1-for-2 performance. As a team, North Central recorded two hits and worked two walks, showing improved patience late in the game. Defensively, the Rams played error-free softball, turning in a clean performance in the field and limiting extra opportunities. Behind Broek, the defense recorded multiple groundouts and flyouts, keeping innings manageable despite a challenging fifth-inning surge from the opposition. North Central added late pressure in the bottom of the fifth as freshman infielder
Bailey Bast and freshman infielder/outfielder
Allina Mendoza each drew walks to put two runners on base, but the rally was halted before runs could cross. Despite the final score, the Rams showed resilience with improved defensive consistency and signs of life offensively as the game progressed.
